As the Modernisme clothing courses advance and the students work on their own outfits, here are some activities coming up that are open to the general public, in preparation for the great Modernisme event of the year:
Performance and guided tour of the Modernisme collection. A live demonstration of how women of this era got dressed, piece by piece, and original dresses from the Museum archive (Sunday 24 March).
Workshop: Make a Modernisme-inspired hat. Learn to design and make a boater, bonnet or picture hat in the style of the period (Saturday 27 April).
Casting for the 2019 Modernisme fashion show. Anyone interested in walking in this year’s show must come to this casting session (Saturday 27 April).
New exhibition “Movie dresses”. Discover the links between the fantastic original pieces and the garments designed today in the Modernisme style, for film or fancy dress (Sunday 28 April).
Below are some of the activities scheduled for the weekend of the Fair (11 and 12 May), which focuses on the world of cinema this year.
The museum will open its doors and offer guided tours of the new exhibition “Movie dresses” and the restoration workshop where visitors can see how pieces of this and other periods are handled (Sunday 12 May).
We will meet up at Masia Freixa for the great Modernisme parade. A great opportunity to bring the family and experience a festive day out in the Terrassa of 100 years ago. Warning: the parade starts at Masia Freixa and ends at Plaça dels Museus this year (Sunday 12 May).
The 2019 Modernisme fashion show will take place at Plaça dels Museus. A spectacular display of elegant outfits created by the models themselves, with hard work and rigorous historical accuracy (Sunday 12 May).
And there will be a workshop for kids and families at the Raval stop. This year, each child will get the chance to make a thaumatrope, a fun toy using the optical effect that cinema was first based on (Saturday 11 and Sunday 12 May).
